Selection Process

Two competent assessors independently evaluate each qualifying application, assigning a score on a scale of 1 to 10 based on four primary characteristics and their overall coherence:

  • Professional Experience Quality (30% weight)
  •  Professional Recommendation Quality (30% weight)
  • (30% weight) Quality of Commitment to Your Home Country
  • Educational Background Quality (10% weight)

The JJ/WBGSP Secretariat selects the finalists based on the following criteria after calculating the average score from both assessors:

  • ensuring that the rewards are distributed widely geographically.
  • ensuring that the winners are distributed fairly by gender.
  • considering exceptional situations or difficulties while assessing work history and other application components.
  • When all other factors are similar, give preference to candidates who have less access to funding for studying overseas.

Following the selection of the finalists, the JJ/WBGSP Steering Committee—which includes representatives from the World Bank Board of Directors and management—is presented with the list by the JJ/WBGSP Secretariat for approval. Soon after this approval, winners are informed and have to submit the following data:

  • Identity documents, like a birth certificate or passport.
  • a medical certificate from the beginning of the program that is less than three months old.
