Eligibility Criteria

  • New students submitting applications to the University of Melbourne for graduate research degrees 
  • Students currently enrolled in the university’s graduate research program
  • Simply apply for the course to be immediately eligible for the scholarship; no additional applications are required.

Financial Benefits

  • For up to two years for students pursuing a Master by Research degree or up to 3.5 years for students pursuing a PhD, a living allowance of $38,500 per year pro rata (2025 full-time study rate) is provided. 
  • The living allowance includes limited paid parental, maternity, and sick leave and may be adjusted yearly. 
  • For students relocating from states or territories other than Victoria, the relocation award is $2000; for students relocating from outside Australia, it is $3000.

Selection Process

  • Eligible candidates are evaluated and graded based on their research potential in their field of study as well as their academic performance from their most recent degree.

  • You will be automatically eligible for the Graduate Research Scholarships if you are a new student and you apply for a graduate research course by the course’s application deadline. Within ten business days after submitting your course application through the UOM Website, you will be notified that a scholarship application has been added to your file.
