University of Birmingham
Birmingham University, previously known as the University of Birmingham, is a public research university located in Birmingham, England. It became the first civic or “red brick” university in England to receive a royal charter in 1900 after succeeding Queen’s College, Birmingham (established in 1825 as the Birmingham School of Medicine and Surgery) and Mason Science College (founded in 1875 by Sir Josiah Mason). Additionally, it was England’s first unitary university. Both the worldwide network of research institutions and the Russell Group of British research universities list it among their initial members.
