What Is International English Olympiad 2024?

The International English Olympiad is a yearly exam conducted by the Science Olympiad Foundation(SOF)for school students. The olympiad is focused on the usage of the English language and it tests the students on the same level. These olympiad exams help students to get exposure to face National and International English Olympiad level competitions. Students from different schools across the country participate in these exams. Learning a language is a never-ending process. Such subjects always have scope for improvement. This can be done only with sheer hard work, love for the subject, and deep-diving dedication. 

The marks obtained in the Olympiad help students to change themselves by comparing with other students from all across the country as well as abroad. Students who participate in IEO also receive a student performance report(SPR) that provides them with a detailed analysis of their performance. The exam is open for students from class 1st to 10th. It assists them in becoming proficient in the field of English.

Objective of International English Olympiad

The olympiad exam aims to improve English spelling, grammar sentences, structure, and master students’ language skills. Eligibility Criteria for Level 1 Exam

For Level 1exam, there are no specific criteria as students from class 1st to 12th can participate. Also, there is no requirement of minimum marks which in turn makes the level 1 exam open to a large number of students. All the students from the country or abroad enrolled in classes from 1st to 12th are eligible.

Eligibility Criteria for level 2 exam

Students who performed well in the level 1 exam are shortlisted to appear in level 2. The eligibility criteria for the level 2 exam is given below:

  • Top 5% of the students from each class who appeared for the level 1 exam.
  • Top 25 zone wise and class first rank holders.
  • Class toppers from each participating school where at least 10 students from a class appear in the exam and score 50% qualifying marks.
  • Top rank holder in case of section wise registration.

Procedure for Registration in International English Olympiad 2024

The students were interested to participate in the international English Olympiad and follow the steps which are given below:

  • First, the schools need to register themselves with the Science Olympiad Foundation. The registered School will receive the prospectus containing the registration form. The student can get these registration forms from their respective schools.
  • Schools not registered with Science Olympiad Foundation can contact to request for the prospectus School can contact SOF through phone or email.
  • The students who are interested in participating in the International English Olympiad can fill the registration form with all the relevant details and submit the filled form to the respective schools.
  • The school then must return the duly filled registration form to the SOF before the due date.

Registration Fee for International English Olympiad 2024

There is a registration fee that applicants need to pay the fees of child will be in the following manner:

  • For schools in India, the registration fee of INR 125 per student.
  • For International schools a registration fee of USD 9 per student.

Exam Structure for International English Olympiad 2024

The exam is conducted in two levels with top-performing students in level 1 then qualifying for level 2. Here is how the exam is structured:

Level 1
  • Level 1 is organized in the respective schools of the students. The exam is conducted during school hours.
  • The duration of the exam is 60 minutes.
  • The exam is in the form of multiple-choice questions (objective-type). There are 35 questions for students of classes 1 to 4 and 50 questions for classes 5 to 12 students.
  • There are 4 sections in the question paper:
  • Word and Structure knowledge (Section 1)
  • Reading (Section 2)
  • Spoken & Written Expression (Section 3)
  • Achievers Section (Section 4)
  • There are separate question papers for each class and the medium of the exam is English.
  • The exam papers are designed from CBSE, ICSE/ISC, and State Board syllabi.
Level 2

Students with excellent performance in the level 1 exam qualify for level 2 exams. The students from class 3rd to 12th appeared for the level 2 exams. The following students are eligible to appear for level 2 exams:

  • Class wise top 5% candidates in Level 1 exam
  • Class wise and zone wise top 25 rank holders in Level 1
  • Class topper is eligible where at least 10 students appear in the exam and score 50% qualifying marks
Result for International English Olympiad 2024

The result for the International English Olympiad will be directly sent to the registered schools and the result will be declared within 8 weeks of the examination. The applicants whose school does not receive the result can also check their results on the website of SOF.

  • Section A covers student’s marks and rank achieved in School/City/Zone/at the international level
  • Section B covers section-wise performance scores of the student
  • Section C covers correct answers to questions asked in the Olympiad exam, the answers given by the student, and performance comparison of the student’s answers vs other students in the Zone and at the International level
  • Section D covers a percentage score analysis of the student with a comparison with the Class, City, Zone, and International level
  • Section E covers a comparison of average marks analysis at the School, City, Zone, and International level
  • Section F covers a comparison of the student’s performance in the Olympiad exams during the past 8 years
