- Eligibility criteria for students: Top 5 students of class IX of a school (nominated by H.M/A.H.M/T.I.C of a school based on the performance in the Annual Examination of class VIII
- Layer 2
- The top 10% of students (provided they have scored at least 30% of the total marks in the Layer 1 examination) of each Unit are eligible for the second level.
- Layer 3
- The top 20% of students (provided they have scored 40% of total marks in the Layer 2 examination) from each district are eligible for the third layer.

- Eligibility criteria: Only the top 5 students of class IX from each school can participate.
- Nomination process: Students are nominated by the Headmaster/Assistant Headmaster/Teacher-In-Charge of the school based on their performance in the Annual Examination of class VIII.
- Subjects: The Olympiad covers Physical Science, Life Science, and Mathematical Science.
- Question type: Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) will be used, with a negative marking of ½ mark for each wrong answer.
- Syllabus: The syllabus for the exam will cover science and mathematics up to the class VIII syllabus of the West Bengal Board.
- Total marks: The exam carries 100 marks (Physical Science 40, Life Science 30, and Mathematical Science 30) for 50 MCQs. Each question carries 2 marks.

- Layer 1
- The top 3 candidates (provided they have scored at least 40% of the total marks in the Layer 1 examination) of each Unit will be awarded a book grant of Rs. 1000/-.
- The top 10% of students (provided they have scored at least 30% of the total marks in the Layer 1 examination) of each Unit will qualify for the second level and these students will be acknowledged by participation certificate
- Layer 2
- Top 10 candidates (provided they have scored 40% of total marks in the Layer 2 examination) of each District will be awarded a book grant of Rs. 2000/-.
- The top 20% of students (provided they have scored 40% of total marks in the Layer 2 examination) from each district will qualify for the third level.
- Layer 3
- Finally, the top hundred (100) students from all over West Bengal will be selected as scholarship awardees. They will be awarded a scholarship of Rs. 1000/- per month during Class IX and X an annual book grant of Rs. 2500/- for two years and a certificate.
- Each of the selected students (100) will get the opportunity to participate in science workshops and there will be training sessions for individual subject-wise National Olympiad Examination.

First Step
- To register yourself at the Vidyasagar Olympiad website you will first have to visit the link given here
- You have to now click on the option called click here for registration link and a new page will open on your screen.
- Read the instructions and then you have to click on the option called apply online
- Only Headmasters (H.M.), Assistant Headmasters (A.H.M.), or Teacher-In-Charge (T.I.C.) of a school can apply for their students.
- Fill in the school’s UDISE code in the specified box and click on the Submit button.
- The school’s name, Block/Municipality/Borough of a Municipal Corporation, and District will automatically appear in the respective places if the UDISE code is correctly provided.
- Fill in the boxes for the school’s address, pin code, name, mobile number, and email id of H.M./A.H.M./T.I.C. of the school.
Second Step
- Upload the scanned copy of the recommendation letter from H.M./A.H.M./T.I.C. of the school in the School’s Letter Head containing the top 5 (maximum) students’ names, guardians’ names, and their percentage (%) of marks in the final examination of Class VIII, and the signature of the individual student in a single PDF file. (Please download the prescribed format of the Recommendation Letter).
- Double-check to ensure all boxes are filled properly.
- Click on the “Please Proceed for Students’ Registration” hyperlink.
- A new page will appear showing the message – “Your School Record is successfully updated”. Then, click on the “Please click here to proceed for registration of students” hyperlink. The student registration page will be opened.
- H.M./A.H.M./T.I.C. of the school is responsible for the student’s registration.
- The school code, school’s name, block/municipal corporation, and district will automatically appear in the respective places.
- Fill in the 1st student’s name, guardian’s name, gender, and student code/ID number as per Banglar Siksha Portal.
- Fill in the contact number and email id of the student (if any).
- Fill in the percentage (%) of marks (in aggregate) of the student obtained in the final examination of Class VIII.
- Upload the scanned copy of the recent passport-size photograph of the student in JPEG format in the specified place for that particular student.
- Upload the scanned copy of the full signature of the student in JPEG format in the specified place for that particular student.
Third Step
- Fill in the CAPTCHA CODE properly, which appears in the adjacent box.
- Click on the REGISTER button.
- A message “STUDENT RECORD SUCCESSFULLY UPDATED” will be shown, and then it will automatically go back to the page for registration of the next student. At the bottom of the page, the list of the already registered students for the same school will be displayed in a table.
- After submission of the information of the 5th candidate, a message “Already 5 (five) students (maximum number) have registered their name from (respective school’s name)” will be displayed, and registration of further students cannot be made.
