About H.H Dalai Lama-Sasakawa Scholarship 2023
The Sasakawa India Leprosy Foundation (SILF) has launched the H.H Dalai Lama-Sasakawa Scholarship 2023 to financially support students living in self-settled leprosy colonies who wish to pursue further professional degrees. The scholarship will be awarded to students who wish to pursue professional master’s, bachelor’s, or diploma programs. Only courses given by government-approved universities will be eligible for the grant. Students living in self-established leprosy colonies will provide financial support for the selected students to pursue higher professional degrees.

Objective of H.H Dalai Lama-Sasakawa Scholarship
H.H Dalai Lama-Sasakawa Scholarship initiative by the Sasakawa India Leprosy Foundation (SILF) to financially support students residing in self-settled leprosy colonies for pursuing higher professional studies. The scholarship will be given for pursuing professional master’s, bachelor’s, and diploma courses. The scholarship will be available only for courses offered by Government recognized institutions.
Benefits of H.H Dalai Lama-Sasakawa Scholarship
Every year, the H H Dalai Lama Sasakawa (S-ILF) Scholarship is awarded to the most deserving 25 students by the Sasakawa India Leprosy Foundation (SILF). The goal of this award is to give financial assistance to the most deserving students. The students who are chosen for this scholarship benefit in a variety of ways during the course. SILF will pay the students’ entrance fees, tuition fees, meal fees, and boarding/hostel expenses directly to the institutes where they are presently enrolled after they have been selected. Aside from that, SILF will offer each accepted applicant a monthly stipend to cover his or her basic needs.
Eligibility Criteria
In order to be considered for the H.H Dalai Lama Sasakawa (S-ILF) Scholarship, the applicants need to first check the eligibility criteria as prescribed by the scholarship offering authority. This scholarship is not like other scholarships, it has some conditions that every applicant needs to fulfill. If any applicant is found to be not fulfilling any of the prescribed criteria will not be considered for the scholarship. As per Sasakawa India Leprosy Foundation, every applicant needs to fulfill the following criteria for HH Dalai Lama Sasakawa (S-ILF) Scholarship 2022-23:
- The students who are enrolled in professional Master’s, bachelor’s, and Diploma courses at any of the Government recognized institutions can apply for the H Dalai Lama Sasakawa (S-ILF) Scholarship 2021- 22. The students must note that those who are admitted to a non-professional course will not be considered for the scholarship.
- The applicant or one of his/her parents must have leprosy and should be residing in a self-settled leprosy colony.
- Applications from those candidates will be accepted who are enrolled in professional courses (even diplomas) only after completing the Senior Secondary (10 + 2).
- Only those applicants who are in the first year of their professional courses are eligible to apply for the H.H Dalai Lama Sasakawa (S-ILF) Scholarship.
- It only one member of a family is eligible to apply for the H.H Dalai Lama Sasakawa (S-ILF) Scholarship.
- Only those students who belong to Jharkhand or Chhattisgarh or West Bengal or Madhya Pradesh or Orissa or Bihar or Uttar Pradesh or Delhi or Maharashtra can apply for this scholarship.
- Students who are already availing of the benefits of other similar scholarships are not eligible to apply, such students will not be considered for this scholarship.
- Applicants must be aged at least 17 years at the time of filling the application for this scholarship.
- To be considered for the H.H Dalai Lama Sasakawa (S-ILF) Scholarship 2023, applicants should have completed the last course in the year 2022 or 2023.

- Photographs of the applicant in passport size Self-attested copies of the following papers –
- A birth certificate or other proof of date of birth is required.
- Matriculation (10th), senior secondary (12th), and graduation (if seeking for a master’s degree) certificates are required.
- Marksheets from the 10th, 12th, and Graduation Board Exams (If applying for Masters Course)
- Parent/parents’ leprosy certificate (treatment certificate from the location where they were treated, or certificate from the District Leprosy Officer, or disability certificate stating Hansen’s disease/leprosy)
- Candidates must produce a provisional admission letter from the institute to which they have been accepted, or the applicant must include the names of three colleges to which they are applying.
- A letter of recommendation from the colony leader stating that the candidate is a colony resident and the sole candidate from their family.
- Proof of enrollment in a government-approved institution (In case the student has already gained admission)
Selection Process
Once the application procedure is finished, the Sasakawa India Leprosy Foundation will assess the applications. They will choose the most worthy candidates for the scholarship based on academic excellence, previous performance, and other factors. The list of selected candidates will be posted on the Sasakawa India Leprosy Foundation’s official website. The scholarship monthly stipend will be transferred straight to the students’ bank accounts if they are approved for the award. The student’s fees for entrance, tuition, meal, and boarding/hostel charges will be paid directly to the institutes where they are currently enrolled.
