What Is Khorana Program for Scholars 2023?

The Department of Biotechnology has created the Khorana Program for Scholars in order to honor Doctor Har Govind Khorana who was the winner of the Nobel prize in 1968 for his work in the interface of Chemistry and Biology. This opportunity will provide encouragement to the Indian student so that they can take into account research in the leading US Universities over the summer of 2023 for a period of 10 to 12 weeks. These scholars will get selection on the basis of the eligibility criteria. This will also encourage PG students to take up research as a career. The opportunity will promote Research and capacity building in the areas of biotechnology for the people who are otherwise not able to get start on their careers because this is a tough stream.

Eligibility Criteria

The applicant must follow the following eligibility criteria in order to successfully apply for this prestigious program presented by the organization:-

• Indian citizens currently enroll in a recognize Institutions of Higher Education in India.
• Pre-final year students enrolled in B.Tech., M. Tech., MSc., B.E., M.E., M.S., Integrated B.SM.S., B.Sc., B.V.Sc., M.V.Sc., B. Pharm., M. Pharm., MBBS., and Master in Medical Science and Technology (MMST) at recognized institutions of higher education in India in Biotechnology and allied areas (including agricultural, food, health, biomedical sciences and interdisciplinary areas like Computational Sciences, Big Data, Machine Learning, etc.) are eligible to apply.
• Only those candidates who have a minimum of one year remaining for the completion of their course in India are eligible to apply [for e.g. for the 2023 Call, only those candidates who shall be completing their degree program on or after May 2024 are eligible to apply (preferably pre-final year students)]. First Year, Final Year and Ph.D. students are NOT eligible to apply.
• The applicant should have:
  • ▪ Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 8.0 or higher, OR,
  • ▪ Percentage: 80% and higher.
  • ▪ Minimum 65% and higher if the applicant is an MBBS student.
