About Teachers Associateship for Research Excellence (TARE) 2023
Teachers Associateship for Research Excellence is an opportunity that is provided by the Science and Engineering Research Board. This scheme aims to facilitate the mobility of faculty members who are working in a regular capacity in State Universities/ Colleges and in private academic institutions to carry out research work in established public-funded Central institutes such as IITs, IISc, IISERS, National Institutions, and other Central Universities, which are located preferably nearer to the institution where the faculty member is working. Research work will be carried out in such a manner to ensure that PI continues to work in the host Institute as well as his or her parents’ Institute on mutually agreed terms between the PI and mentor.

Objective of Teachers Associateship for Research Excellence
The aim of the Teachers Association for Research Excellence is to facilitate the mobility of faculty members working in State Universities/ Colleges and in private academic institutions to carry out research work in established publicly funded Institutions such as IITs, IISc, IISERS, National Institutions, and other Central Universities, which are located preferably nearer to the institution where the faculty member is working.
Benefits of Teachers Association for Research Excellence
- The research Fellowship will get around INR 60,000 per year in addition to the researcher’s own salary.
- Research grant of INR 500000 per annum (50 percent to host and parents institution) and overheads (as per SERB norms)

SERB TARE Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for a Teachers Associateship for Research Excellence an applicant must be:
- The applicant must be an Indian citizen.
- The applicant is not more than 45 years of age at the time of the submission of the application form.
- Hold a Ph.D. degree in Science or M.S./M.D. degree in Medicine or M.E./M. Tech degree in Engineering/ Technology.
- Hold a regular academic research position in State Universities/Colleges and Private academic institutions.
Selection Criteria
- The proposals will be evaluated through peer review processes as per SERB guidelines.
- Selection for the TARE scheme will be purely competitive based on the scientific merit of the proposal.
